Hi, I'm Lissa.
For three decades I worked as a speech-language pathologist, evaluating and treating adults with memory and communication impairment. I have worked with over ten thousand families to successfully maintain their relationships through those challenges.
In 2018 my parents were both diagnosed with dementia, my mom with Vascular Dementia and dad with Lewy Body Dementia. As I tried to balance their care with the needs of my children, husband and work, I struggled with guilt, exhaustion and grief. I experienced all levels of care from a private pay home assistant to a secured memory care facility from the side of the heartbroken daughter.
Today we have a new diagnosis of dementia in our extended family. I've been determined to find every resource available and create resources where none exist. Collaboration is essential and support systems must be solidified. I've learned to seek information from specialists of all kinds, always focusing on the relationships and shifting roles.
Now I bring both perspectives - the clinical expertise and the resources of personal experience - to help other family care partners navigate this journey with less conflict and more confidence.
